The Church

  1. Introduction
    1. Matt. 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
    2. Matt..16:13-20
      Matt. 16.13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
      Matt. 16.14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
      Matt. 16.15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
      Matt. 16.16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
      Matt. 16.17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
      Matt. 16.18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
      Matt. 16.19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
      Matt. 16.20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
    3. I Pet. 2:1-10 I Pet. 2.1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
      I Pet. 2.2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
      I Pet. 2.3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
      I Pet. 2.4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
      I Pet. 2.5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
      I Pet. 2.6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
      I Pet. 2.7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
      I Pet. 2.8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
      I Pet. 2.9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
      I Pet. 2.10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
  2. Prophecy

      Dan. 7:13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
      Dan. 7:14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
    2. Isiah 2:1-3
      Isa. 2:1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
      Isa. 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
      Isa. 2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
    3. Zec. 1:16 Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.

      Mark 1.6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
      Mark 1.7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
      Mark 1.8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
    6. Luke 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
    7. Luke 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
    8. Luke 21:31-32
      Luke 21:31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
      Luke 21:32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
    9. Luke 24:44-53 Luke 24.44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
      Luke 24.45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
      Luke 24.46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
      Luke 24.47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
      Luke 24.48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
      Luke 24.49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
      Luke 24.50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
      Luke 24.51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
      Luke 24.52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
      Luke 24.53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
  3. The Church was established about 9:00 AD 33
    1. Acts 1:1-14
    2. Acts 2:1-47
    3. Acts 11:25-26
      Acts 11.25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
      Acts 11.26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
  4. The body
    1. Ephesians 1:19-23
      Eph. 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
      Eph. 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
      Eph. 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
      Eph. 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
      Eph. 1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
    2. Colossians 1:18-19
      Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
      Col 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
    3. Ephesians 4:4-6
      Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
      Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
      Eph 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
    4. I Cor. 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
  5. The bride Ephesians 5:23-33
    Eph. 5.23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
    Eph. 5.24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
    Eph. 5.25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
    Eph. 5.26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
    Eph. 5.27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
    Eph. 5.28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
    Eph. 5.29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
    Eph. 5.30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
    Eph. 5.31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
    Eph. 5.32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
    Eph. 5.33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
  6. What is in a name?
    1. Gen. 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
    2. Gen. 17:15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.
    3. Gen. 32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
    4. Acts 4:1-12
    5. I Cor 1:9-13
      I Cor. 1.9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
      I Cor. 1.10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
      I Cor. 1.11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
      I Cor. 1.12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
      I Cor. 1.13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
    6. the church of God (12), the church of the firstborn (1), the churches of Christ (1), the churches of saints (1)
  7. Earthly Organizations
    1. I Tim. 4:1-3
      1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
      1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
      1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
    2. II Thes. 2:1-17
