Escaping God's Wrath

  1. God's Righteousness:
    1. Exodus 9:27 And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
    2. Leviticus 19:2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.
    3. 1 Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
    4. Jesus says in John 17:25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
    5. Romans 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
    6. Psalms 111:3 His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
    7. Psalms 116:5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.
    8. Psalms 145:17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.
  2. Sin is in opposition to God's Righteousness
    1. His wrath kindled against sin:
    2. 1 John 5:17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
    3. Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
    4. Romans 2:8-9 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
    5. King Josiah after hearing the "words of the book of the law"(2 Ki 22:11): 2 Kings 22:13 Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.
    6. Ephesians 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
  3. Fear Him:
    1. Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
    2. Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.
    3. Acts 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
    4. Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
  4. Judgment:
    1. Romans 2:5-6 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
    2. 1 Peter 1:16-17 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
    3. Revelation 6:16-17 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
    4. But "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23) "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23)
  5. Then how can we escape God's wrath? We can escape His wrath through Christ:
    1. John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
    2. Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
    3. 2 Corinthians 5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
    4. 1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
    5. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
    6. Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him (Christ).
    7. 1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
    8. 1 John 2:29 If ye know that he (Christ) is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
    9. 1 Thessalonians 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
  6. Conclusion:
    1. God is Holy; God is Righteous.
    2. Sin is in opposition to God's Holiness and His Righteousness.
    3. His wrath is kindled against sin.
    4. We are told in the scriptures to fear God
    5. there will be a day of judgment and He "will render to every man according to his works" (Rom 2:6 ASV). "For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God"
    6. (Rom 3:23). The scriptures tell us "the wages of sin is death"
