A New Life

  1. Introduction Romans 6:4 "even so we also should walk in newness of life."
  2. Change
    1. Romans 6:1-23
    2. Romans 7:4-6
      Rom 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
      Rom 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
      Rom 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
    3. Rom. 12:1-2
      Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
      Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
    4. II Corinthians 5: 17-21
      II Cor. 5.17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
      II Cor. 5.18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
      II Cor. 5.19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
      II Cor. 5.20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
      II Cor. 5.21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
    5. Hebrews 10:21-31
      Heb. 10.21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
      Heb. 10.22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
      Heb. 10.23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
      Heb. 10.24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
      Heb. 10.25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
      Heb. 10.26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
      Heb. 10.27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
      Heb. 10.28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
      Heb. 10.29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
      Heb. 10.30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
      Heb. 10.31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
  3. Walk after the Spirit
    1. Galatians 2:16-21
      Gal.. 2.16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
      Gal.. 2.17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
      Gal.. 2.18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
      Gal.. 2.19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
      Gal.. 2.20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
      Gal.. 2.21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
    2. Galatians 5:16-26
      Gal. 5.16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
      Gal. 5.17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
      Gal. 5.18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
      Gal. 5.19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
      Gal. 5.20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
      Gal. 5.21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
      Gal. 5.22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
      Gal. 5.23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
      Gal. 5.24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
      Gal. 5.25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
      Gal. 5.26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
    3. Ephesians 4:17-32
      Eph. 4.17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
      Eph. 4.18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
      Eph. 4.19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
      Eph. 4.20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
      Eph. 4.21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
      Eph. 4.22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
      Eph. 4.23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
      Eph. 4.24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
      Eph. 4.25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
      Eph. 4.26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
      Eph. 4.27 Neither give place to the devil.
      Eph. 4.28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
      Eph. 4.29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
      Eph. 4.30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
      Eph. 4.31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
      Eph. 4.32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
    4. Colossians 3:1-17
      Col. 3.1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
      Col. 3.2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
      Col. 3.3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
      Col. 3.4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
      Col. 3.5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
      Col. 3.6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
      Col. 3.7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
      Col. 3.8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
      Col. 3.9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
      Col. 3.10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
      Col. 3.11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
      Col. 3.12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
      Col. 3.13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
      Col. 3.14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
      Col. 3.15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
      Col. 3.16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
      Col. 3.17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
  4. Add to your faith
    1. II Peter 1:5-15
      II Pet. 1.5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
      II Pet. 1.6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
      II Pet. 1.7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
      II Pet. 1.8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
      II Pet. 1.9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
      II Pet. 1.10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
      II Pet. 1.11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
      II Pet. 1.12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
      II Pet. 1.13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
      II Pet. 1.14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
      II Pet. 1.15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
    2. II Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
    3. II Timothy 4:1-5
      II Tim. 4.1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
      II Tim. 4.2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
      II Tim. 4.3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
      II Tim. 4.4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
      II Tim. 4.5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
  5. Conclusion Hebrews 6:1-8
    Heb. 6.1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
    Heb. 6.2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
    Heb. 6.3 And this will we do, if God permit.
    Heb. 6.4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
    Heb. 6.5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
    Heb. 6.6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
    Heb. 6.7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
    Heb. 6.8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
